CC3C - Challenge 20

Hi all,

This challenge is the distress water colouring - part 2, page 40 of the Compendium of Curiosities III.
I am slightly overwhelmed at the moment as I am in the process of making 90 wedding invitations for some friends of ours.  Soooo I decided to combine the challenge with the card I have to make for a birthday at the end of January.

The first thing I did was to stamp the game wheel from the Stampers Anonymous set Ringmaster Blueprint and to colour with distress ink, then to follow the instructions on page 40 using weathered wood, and old paper distress ink.

The middle of the game wheel was stamped with embossing ink onto some gold mirror card and heat embossed with black embossing powder.  This was then cut out and a spinner was attached and the whole thing was mounted onto the card front with some sticky pads to give a bit of dimension.  The topper was then mounted onto more gold mirror card and then to the card front.

Using the Tim Holtz alterations strip die 'Untieled' I die cut the letters for birthday from brown card and using tarnished brass, picket fence and black soot distress inks made them look like old metal.  The letters were then added to the card and a peel off added for the word Wishes was added in the corner.

12 Tags of 2015 - January

Hi all,

A new year a new set of tags,  how exciting especially with all the glorious new things Tim Holtz has been tempting us with in his teasers from the CHA show.  Will my bank balance survive, I want it all!

My husband, who has a strange sense of humour (to say the least!), has titled my January tag 'The Hole of Time'  Hmm well see what you think........

I followed the instructions on Tim's blog to prepare the background using some Postale tissue wrap and seedless preserves and salty ocean distress paint.  When the tag was completely dry I used a round die to cut the hole off centre, I really like the way the background came out so I'm keeping the cut piece to use on another project.

Using gold mirri card I die cut the weathered clock but not a whole one as I only needed about half.  I distressed the card with my idea-ology sander and dabbed black alcohol ink over the die cut, trying not to get a solid black finish, I wanted it to look patchy.  Where the mirrored coating had come off the card the ink went a lot darker than on the mirrored surface, great.  I then stuck the weathered clock round the hole on the tag.

Using some of the chitchat stickers I added some words that I hope will symbolise the year to come and added some black shading using a black soot distress marker and my finger, (inky fingers again, nothing new there then!).  The cloak face was from a Chocolate Baroque stamp set called Steampunkery, I love this set for its really quirky images. The clock face was cut out using a slightly smaller circle die and smooched through some seedless preserves and salty ocean distress ink on my craft mat.  When it was dry I added a thin strip of acetate across the back of the clock and the tag to make the floating clock face.

The numbers are form the Signmaker alpha parts and I used tarnished brass distress stain for the 201 and antique linen for the number 5, once dry these were stuck to the tag.

A piece of cream seam binding was also smooched through the distress inks, dried and tied at the top to finish the tag.

CC3C - Challenge 19

Hi all,

Frayed Fabric, see page 66 of the compendium of curiosities.  I decided to do something for my daughter as she has just passed her driving test and is whizzing about in her own little car....this means even more opportunities for panic, will she get where she is going, will she get back!  Ah well a Mothers worries are never done.

However we are here to celebrate all things Holtz so on with the show!!

I used one of Tims burlap panels and stencilled a musical cascade using grunge paste and an IndigoBlu stencil called Musical Notes.  Once the grunge paste had dried I added some broken china and dusty concord distress ink over the paste.  Then added some shadow using a black pen for a more 3D look, and a few highlights with a silver pen.

I die cut a heart out of the fabric and also some plain cotton, then die cut another heart from wadding using a slightly smaller die.  I made a sandwich of fabric, wadding and lining cotton and sewed them together.  I then distressed the edges with my pokey tool to give the frayed edge.  I then sprayed the heart with broken china and dusty concord distress spray and water to make the ink disperse even more.  Once it was dry I used one of Tims arrows and attached it to the front of the heart using a little embroidery floss.

The black notes and treble clef were cut from black card and embossed with clear embossing powder.  Just a little tip, keep hold of these small pieces while embossing as I was chasing them all over the desk, LOL.  I also cut the same pieces from silver mirri card.  I also printed off the words onto kraft card and outlined them in black and added some white highlights.

To make the texture of the burlap stand out a little more I dry brushed a little white paint around the edges making the amount of paint lighter the closer I got to the middle of the panel.

I attached the heart to the panel and then arranged the notes and words around the heart and stuck them down.  To finish the panel I made a loop at the end of some purple ribbon then stuck the ribbon round the panel with the loop in the middle of the top edge and finished it off with a silver bead.
